Three good reasons
Study contents
The 7-semester degree programme consists of a foundation phase, specialisation studies, and an internship semester. It is completed by a bachelor's thesis. In the bachelor's degree programme Digital Society at THWS you will learn about fundamental theoretical concepts through practical experience. Studies at THWS are characterised by a high share of practice and the internship semester, which allows you to gain insights into the day-to-day operations at a company. Thus, our programmes offer a well-balanced mix of fundamental theory and important practical experience.
Programme structure
Foundation studies (1st to 4th semester)
In the first four semesters you will develop a sound basis in digitalisation, design, and social sciences. You will learn about the basics of information and communication technology, design thinking, and theories and methods of social sciences. The foundation phase equips you to move through the digital space taking into account societal aspects. Hence, this phase forms a solid base for the subsequent semesters in which you will continue to broaden and deepen your knowledge.
Internship semester (5th semester)
The internship semester is scheduled for the 5th semester. During the internship, you will apply your theoretical knowledge in a company or organisation. In this semester you have the opportunity to gain valuable practical experience and form a network with important players from the industry. You may also choose to spend your internship semester in a company abroad. That way, you will gain even more international and cultural experience while making contact with international experts and like-minded people.
Project work and elective modules (6th semester)
The 6th semester is focused on an extensive collaborative project. You also choose three of your six elective modules according to your personal interests.
Final semester (7th semester)
The bachelor's degree programme is concluded by the bachelor's thesis, in which you can work on a practice-oriented problem and can put your knowledge and skills to the test. After completing your studies, you will have in-depth specialist knowledge and the necessary practical experience to succeed in the professional world.
Core elective modules
In the 6th and 7th semester, you choose a total of six core elective modules (FWPM) to specialise according to your interests.
You may not only choose courses offered by FIW but all THWS modules. You may also contact professors and inquire whether you may participate in their courses to facilitate your individual specialisation. However, at least one of the core elective modules (FWPM) must be offered by FIW. We offer the following courses in the winter semester:

Practice-orientation
Studies at THWS are characterised by a high degree of practice-orientation and the internship semester. Depending on the chosen degree programme, the internship semester is scheduled for the 5th or 6th semester. The internship semester offers you the chance to complete an internship with a company of your choice and gain insights into the professional world. That way you can apply the theoretical and practical knowledge developed during your studies in the work environment you are most interested in.

Admission requirements
Requirement for admission to the Technical University of Applied Sciences Würzburg-Schweinfurt is a valid general higher education entrance qualification (Abitur), a subject-specific higher education entrance qualification (fachgebundene Hochschulreife), an advanced technical college certificate (Fachhochschulreife), a general/subject-specific entrance qualification for qualified professionals, or a comparable qualification from abroad (HZB, university entrance qualification).
