Reasons to study Business and Engineering at THWS

This master's programme is your ticket to the world of business and engineering in today's artificial intelligence environment. We combine technical expertise with strategic management and place a clear focus on digital transformation. At THWS, you will not only deepen your knowledge of production, logistics and sales, but also learn how to use state-of-the-art technologies such as artificial intelligence and business analytics in an engineering context. Whether in technical sales or in smart factories, this programme specifically prepares you for specialist and management tasks at the interface between technology and business.

Advantages of the degree programme:

  • Future-oriented content: focus on digitalisation, AI methods, and data-driven optimisation (business analytics, machine learning)
  • Practical implementation: application-oriented modules such as the "SimCar" project, in which complex production systems are planned and put into real operation
  • Holistic perspective: learn about the entire product life cycle – from requirements engineering to production and technical sales
  • Interdisciplinary expertise: combination of technology law, management skills, and in-depth engineering knowledge for complex management tasks
  • Career booster: the Master of Engineering (M. Eng.) degree qualifies graduates for management positions in industry and higher civil service and paves the way for doctoral studies

Three good reasons

Innovation & AI: learn how to efficiently use and validate ChatGPT, machine learning, and AI tools for scientific and industrial problems
Real-world "SimCar" lab: blank theory is a thing of the past: in the "Planning and Operation of Production Systems" module, you will independently manage a model factory, including logistics and assembly
Interface competence: become a sought-after mediator between departments. You will learn to translate customer requirements into technical terms and to design highly automated systems economically

Study contents

The three-semester master's programme in Business and Engineering at THWS provides you with interdisciplinary training at the interface between technology and business. In the first two semesters, you will build in-depth knowledge of digital production, AI-supported process optimisation, and technical sales – taught through interactive teaching methods, project work, and case studies. In the final phase, you will apply your knowledge in practical projects and prepare yourself specifically for management tasks in Industry 4.0.

Main studies (1st and 2nd semester)

In the first two semesters, you will build advanced skills in two central areas:

1. Technology & digitalisation:
You will delve deeply into the theory and modelling of technical systems and learn how to evaluate production data using business analytics and AI. Modules such as Advanced Manufacturing and Automation Systems will prepare you for the networked factory of the future.

2. Management & sales: You will professionalise your profile through sales management and technology law. In addition, you will learn how to methodically translate complex requirements into product features in requirements engineering.

Final phase (3rd semester)

The third semester is entirely devoted to your master's thesis. Here you will work on a complex technical and economic issue, often in direct collaboration with an industry partner. This is accompanied by a master's colloquium, which prepares you for defending your thesis.

What makes studies at THWS so practice-oriented?

  • Exercise courses and practice projects
  • Getting to know and applying new technologies
  • Professors with a solid background in industry and economy
  • Cooperation with companies and industry partners, regionally and internationally
  • Opportunity of writing your final thesis in cooperation with a company
