Excellent career perspectives: Benefit from our close cooperation with industry and research institutions and prepare for a successful career in robotics, automation, or medical technology.

Study contents

The seven-semester Mechatronics degree programme provides a well-balanced blend of Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, and Computer Science. The foundation phase (1st to 2nd semester) builds fundamental knowledge, while the main studies (3rd to 7th semester) focus on deepening your understanding in areas such as automation and robotics. Practical lab work complements the theoretical content. The internship semester and the TWIN programme ensure a practice-oriented and international education.

Foundation phase (1st and 2nd semester)

Develop a solid foundation in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, and computer science. Courses cover mathematics, mechanics, electrical engineering, and programming of technical systems. Theoretical content is reinforced through lab sessions, enabling hands-on application from the start.

Main studies (3rd to 4th semester)

Deepen your expertise in key areas of mechatronics, such as systems development, simulation and testing, and automation. Electives like Robotics, Medical Technology, and Artificial Intelligence allow you to tailor your studies to your interests.

Specialisation phase (5th semester)

Choose two specialisation modules to align your academic focus with your career ambitions and already embark on your professional path while studying.

Internship semester (6th semester)

Apply your knowledge in a real-world context through a six-month internship, either in Germany or abroad. Gain hands-on experience, work on real projects, and build valuable industry contacts.

Final semester (7th semester)

Conclude your studies with an industry project and your bachelor’s thesis. The thesis typically addresses a real-world challenge in cooperation with a company, showcasing your ability to solve complex technical problems independently.

The programme allows you to focus on future-oriented fields. Shape your career by choosing from the following modules:

  • Mechatronics in Automotive Engineering
  • Digital Manufacturing
  • Automation and Robotics
  • Electric Drives and Power Electronics

Students can also choose from our general elective modules (AWPM). These enable you to specialise further.

Practice-orientation

Studies at THWS are characterised by a high degree of practice-orientation and the internship semester. Depending on the chosen degree programme, the internship semester is scheduled for the 5th or 6th semester. The internship semester offers you the chance to complete an internship with a company of your choice and gain insights into the professional world. That way you can apply the theoretical and practical knowledge developed during your studies in the work environment you are most interested in.

  • Exercise courses and practice projects
  • Getting to know and applying new technologies
  • Internship semester as an integral part of studies
  • Professors with extensive experience in the industry and economy
  • Cooperation with companies and industry partners, also internationally
  • Possibility of completing your final thesis in cooperation with a company

By the way: You also have the opportunity to complete your internship semester abroad. That way, you do not only develop intercultural competence but also boost your language skills and your career perspectives on the international job market.
