Study contents

The 7-semester bachelor's degree programme Surveying and Geoinformatics at THWS offers you a comprehensive, well-structured education that will optimally prepare you for the challenges and opportunities in this rapidly growing, innovative field. The combination of theoretical foundations and extensive practical experience aims to systematically broaden and deepen your knowledge and abilities. The bachelor's thesis concludes your studies.

1: Foundation phase (1st to 2nd semester)

In the 1st semester, you are introduced to the basics of surveying and geoinformatics through modules like Mathematics I, Physics, Surveying Mathematics, Surveying, Surveying Practicals, and CAD I as well as a general elective module. These subjects are continued and deepened in the 2nd semester. The study contents are complemented by important key qualifications.

2: Main studies (3rd to 4th semester)

From the 3rd semester onwards, you will deepen your specialist knowledge in modules such as geoinformation systems and databases, photogrammetry and remote sensing, adjustment calculation, GIS and database applications, and applied computer science. The 4th semester then serves to expand this knowledge with modules in applied geoinformatics, digital photogrammetry and laser scanning, satellite navigation and reference systems, engineering geodesy as well as applied engineering geodesy and surveying exercises.

3: Internship semester (5th semester)

During the internship phase, you spend a 20- to 26-week internship at an external institution to gain practical experience upon which you reflect in the internship seminar. It is up to you to decide upon the location for your internship semester - Germany or abroad.

4: Specialisation phase (6th to 7th semester)

The 6th semester marks the start of the specialisation phase which includes modules like Specialisation in Web-Based Geo Information Systems, Documentation and Planning in the Construction Sector, Academic Work, and project work. In the 7th and thus final semester, you will be concerned with the bachelor's thesis and some specialisation modules.

The bachelor's degree programme Surveying and Geoinformatics at THWS offers you the opportunity to choose a specialisation according to your interests. In the specialisation modules, you will develop expert knowledge in specific areas and sharpen your professional profile. We offer the following specialisations:

  • Web-based geo information systems
  • Documentation and planning in the construction sector
  • Land management
  • Mobile 3D surveying
  • Scientific work
