Study contents

The bachelor's degree programme Business Analytics offers a sound theoretical and practical education, thus creating the ideal basis for you, whether you want to start your career after your bachelor's or continue in a master's programme. In the Business Analytics programme, we promote a practice-oriented and project-focused work style, also by offering cooperative studies. The standard time to degree is seven semesters. The programme consists of basic studies, an internship semester, and specialisations with subsequent bachelor's thesis.

1: Foundation phase (1st to 4th semester)

In the first four semesters of your studies, you develop a solid basis in business administration and methodology that is essential for the higher semesters of Business Analytics. You are also concerned with interdisciplinary contents that sharpen your analytical skills and your understanding of economic connections. The foundation phase comprises 24 foundation modules. It forms the basis for further specialisation.

2: Internship semester (5th semester)

The 5th semester focuses on the practical application of the knowledge and skills you have developed so far. You will spend your internship semester in a company to gain real-life experience and put your theoretical knowledge into practice. This will optimally prepare you for the subsequent main studies. The internship also gives you the opportunity to make valuable industry contacts.

3: Main and specialisation studies (6th to 7th semester)

After your internship semester, you will start to specialise. From the 6th semester, you choose one specialisation from the field of business administration and another from business analytics. You work on practice-oriented projects and choose specialisation modules to extend your knowledge and specialise. The 7th semester is completed by the bachelor's thesis, which is prepared and presented within the frame of the bachelor's seminar.

The degree programme Business Analytics offers a specific specialisation module, that focuses on big data technologies, process mining, artificial neuronal networks, and time series analysis.

For their second specialisation module, students can choose from the same range of subjects as Business Administration students.

Students can also choose from our general elective modules (AWPM). These enable you to specialise further.

Practice-orientation

Studies at THWS are characterised by a high degree of practice-orientation and the internship semester. Depending on the chosen degree programme, the internship semester is scheduled for the 5th or 6th semester. That way you can apply the theoretical and practical knowledge developed during your studies in the work environment you are most interested in.
