Study contents
With its well-structured approach, the bachelor's degree programme Specialised Translation (Technology)/Specialised Translation (Economy) at THWS educates technical and business translators with pronounced linguistic and intercultural competence. Conceptualised as parallel studies, you must be enrolled at a Fachakademie für Fremdsprachenberufe (private college for language careers) or must have successfully completed training as a state-certified translator at a Fachakademie or a comparable degree.
Programme structure
Foundation phase (1st to 4th semester)
From the 1st to the 4th semester, students attend courses at THWS and courses at the Fachakademie. You are introduced to the new specialisation in technology, taught by professionals from the technical degree programmes at THWS. In addition, you attend introductory courses on intercultural communication, linguistics, and specific regional studies on the cultural areas of your chosen second foreign language. The seminar on basic entrepreneurial skills is one of the special characteristics of our degree programme. In this seminar, you already get some ideas for your professional future.
Internship semester (5th semester)
The internship semester is scheduled for the 5th semester. It takes place abroad and must include elements that can later be used in the translation profession. We will prepare you for the internship semester. In the 6th semester, you will report in detail on your internship experience.
Final phase (6th semester)
The 6th semester takes place on campus. Translation exercises in the fields of business and technology, terminology, and academic work are the focus areas of this semester. The degree programme culminates in the bachelor's thesis, in the course of which you can deepen your personal interests in the subject of translation and create a calling card for your job applications.
Elective modules
In the course of your studies, you are likely to develop new interests. You realise that you actually want to know more about interpreting or that you are also interested in English legal terminology. Or that you would like to acquire additional computer skills. Not a problem! We have got you covered with our core elective modules (FWPMs) and our general electives (AWPMs). The core electives are offered as part of the degree programme's curriculum. All bachelor’s students regardless of their field of study must take AWPMs. That way, you will get to know students from different disciplines. A great side effect for networking.

Practice-orientation
Studies at THWS are characterised by a high degree of practice-orientation and the internship semester. Depending on the chosen degree programme, the internship semester is scheduled for the 5th or 6th semester. The internship semester offers you the chance to complete an internship with a company of your choice and gain insights into the professional world. That way you can apply the theoretical and practical knowledge developed during your studies in the work environment you are most interested in.

Admission requirements
Requirement for admission to the Technical University of Applied Sciences Würzburg-Schweinfurt is a valid general higher education entrance qualification (Abitur), a subject-specific higher education entrance qualification (fachgebundene Hochschulreife), an advanced technical college certificate (Fachhochschulreife), a general/subject-specific entrance qualification for qualified professionals, or a comparable qualification from abroad (HZB, university entrance qualification).

The degree programme is not offered as a regular undergraduate course. This means that in order to be admitted to the degree programme, you must participate in training as a translator at a Bavarian Fachakademie (private college for language careers). After individual examination, comparable qualifications may be recognised for admission. More information
