Three good reasons
Study contents
The 7-semester degree programme combines scientific, technical, and pedagogical basics. Over the course of studies, you will become an expert of metal technology with strong didactic and methodological abilities. Not only will you develop and apply your knowledge in lectures and lab courses but also in real-world projects and school internships.
Programme structure
Foundation phase (1st to 5th semester)
In the first five semesters, you build the engineering and pedagogical basis for your future career. Three parallel pillars form the degree programme: Metal technology, pedagogy, and a second subject, which you can choose from the fields of mechatronics or mathematics. You will develop expert knowledge in Metal Technology. In Pedagogy, you will develop the necessary knowledge about lesson planning and didactics. In lab courses and interactive teaching formats you will put your knowledge into practice at an early stage.
Internship semester (6th semester)
The 6th semester focuses on the practical application of your knowledge and skills. You will gain valuable work experience in a company or educational institution and deepen your knowledge in a real-life working environment. You take on technical tasks and gain initial experience in training and further education. The internship semester helps you hone your professional interests and build a network for your future career path.
Application phase and bachelor's thesis (7th semester)
In the final semester, you will apply your knowledge in an independent project and prepare intensively for your degree. The bachelor's thesis offers you the opportunity to work on a practical issue from industry or vocational education. You can use your technical expertise and teaching skills to develop solutions to current challenges.
Specialisations
In addition to the main subject of metal technology, students choose a second subject that complements their engineering education. You can choose between mechatronics and mathematics. In mechatronics, you will learn how mechanics, electronics, and computer science work together to control and further develop complex technical systems. In mathematics, the focus is on teaching mathematical concepts in vocational education, an essential foundation for technical professions. This allows you to tailor your studies to your interests and career goals.
Students can also choose from our general elective modules (AWPM). These enable you to specialise further.
Practice-orientation
Studies at THWS are characterised by a high degree of practice-orientation and the internship semester. Depending on the chosen degree programme, the internship semester is scheduled for the 5th or 6th semester. The internship semester offers you the chance to complete an internship with a company of your choice and gain insights into the professional world. That way you can apply the theoretical and practical knowledge developed during your studies in the work environment you are most interested in.
Why are studies at THWS particularly practice-oriented?
- Exercise courses and practice projects
- Getting to know and applying new technologies
- Internship semester as an integral part of studies
