Study contents
The 7-semester degree programme Culinary and Wine Tourism combines economic, cultural, and tourism contents with a particular focus on sustainability. In the foundation phase, you will develop fundamental knowledge in business administration, tourism, and culture. In the main studies, you deepen your knowledge and skills in the fields of culinary arts, wine tourism, and destination management. The modules are offered as lectures, practical courses, and practice projects. An internship semester offers you valuable insights into the professional world. International study options and field trips complement the degree programme.
Programme structure
1: Foundation phase (1st and 2nd semester)
In the first two semesters, you will develop the technical and methodical fundamentals of gastronomy and wine tourism. The focus is placed in tourism, culture, gastronomy sciences, and business administration. You will develop basic knowledge and skills in destination marketing, management strategies in tourism, and an understanding of the particular requirements of wine culture. These subjects are complemented by first insights into sustainability and regional development.
2: Main studies (3rd to 4th semester)
In the 3rd and 4th semester, you will deepen your knowledge in the key areas of the programme: gastronomy and wine tourism management, event organisation, and sustainable tourism development. You develop abilities for planning and implementing culinary experience concepts as well as create innovative tourism strategies. You will also learn how to link indulgence and culture with business factors.
3: Internship semester (5th semester)
The internship semester is scheduled for the 5th semester. It will give you the opportunity to complete a full-time internship in a business in the tourism, gastronomy, or wine industry. That way, you can put your knowledge into practice, gain valuable experience in the field, and make contacts for your future career.
4: Specialisation and final phase (6th and 7th semesters)
The regional or international practice project scheduled for the last two semesters offers you the opportunity to choose your individual specialisations in sustainable tourism, culinary arts, or event management. In the 7th semester, you conclude your studies through a practice-oriented bachelor's thesis in which work on a real-life issue of the field.

Our core elective modules (FWPMs) allow you to tailor the programme to your individual interests.
Students can also choose from our general elective modules (AWPM). These enable you to specialise further.
Practice-orientation
Studies at THWS are characterised by a high degree of practice-orientation and the internship semester. Depending on the chosen degree programme, the internship semester is scheduled for the 5th or 6th semester. The internship semester offers you the chance to complete an internship with a company of your choice and gain insights into the professional world. That way you can apply the theoretical and practical knowledge developed during your studies in the work environment you are most interested in.

Admission requirements
Requirement for admission to the Technical University of Applied Sciences Würzburg-Schweinfurt is a valid general higher education entrance qualification (Abitur), a subject-specific higher education entrance qualification (fachgebundene Hochschulreife), an advanced technical college certificate (Fachhochschulreife), a general/subject-specific entrance qualification for qualified professionals, or a comparable qualification from abroad (HZB, university entrance qualification).
