Study contents

The 7-semester bachelor's degree programme Computer Science consists of several phases to offer students a sound theoretical and practical education. In view of the wide range of possible areas of activity for computer scientists, comprehensive foundations are laid during the studies which teach the skills for methodical problem solving and enable quick familiarisation with all areas of computer science.

1: Foundation phase (1st to 4th semester)

In the foundation phase, students develop extensive knowledge and skills in different fields of computer science.  Among them are programming, software development, databases, networks, and theoretical computer science and computer engineering. Mathematics, academic work, and presentation skills are also part of the curriculum. This phase aims for students to develop a solid basis to build upon. The courses are practice-oriented to facilitate direct application.

2: Internship semester (5th semester)

The internship semester is scheduled for the 5th semester. It is completed in a company of your choice. The internship offers you the opportunity to apply your academic knowledge and skills in a real-world working environment and gain valuable work experience.

3: Specialisation (6th and 7th semester)

In the last two semesters you choose elective modules to tailor your studies to your own interests. Also, this phase is ideal for a semester abroad, which facilitates international exchange and global learning, and helps you gain new perspectives. A research project completed in groups promotes problem-solving skills and students' ability to work in a team.

4: Final semester (7th semester)

The programme is completed by the bachelor's thesis, in which you prove that you are able to apply academic methods to solve a computer science issue. In the course of the seven-semester programme, students complete a total of 210 ECTS credits.

In the 6th and 7th semester, students can choose from different core elective modules (FWPM). In this, they can follow their personal interests. In the 6th semester, you choose four FWPMs and in the 7th semester three FWPMs from the following modules:

  • Advanced Database Techniques
  • Augmented Reality
  • Automotive and Industrial Cybersecurity
  • Blockchain and Smart Contracts
  • Cloud Native Enterprise Java
  • Computer Networks and Cyber Security
  • Computer Vision: Artificial Intelligence Applied
  • Containerisation and Orchestration of Microservices
  • Data Mining with Python
  • Data Science with R
  • Digital Accessibility
  • Ethical Hacking
  • Governance, Risk, Compliance and Ethics
  • Holistic E-Business Setup
  • ISM-Standards and Processes
  • IT Risk Management
  • Introduction to Machine Learning
