Study contents

In the E-Commerce degree programme, you will develop fundamental knowledge of UX/Usability, consumer psychology, computer science, online marketing, and the legal aspects of e-commerce. During the internship semester, you will gain professional experience and apply your theoretical knowledge in real projects. From the 6th semester, you can specialise by choosing seven FWPMs (core elective modules) from our broad curriculum. Among others, our FWPMs cover user interface design, extended programming models, in-depth topics of online marketing, or IT security. The bachelor's thesis allows you to work on a specific topic academically and develop practical solutions.

1: Foundation studies (1st to 4th semester)

In the first four semesters, you lay the foundations in the field of e-commerce. You will be concerned with topics like UX and consumer psychology, website development and accessibility, shop systems and fulfilment, online and social media marketing, as well as business and IT law.

2: Internship semester (5th semester)

The internship semester is scheduled for the 5th semester. Now it is time to put your knowledge to the test in a company. You will also be able to gain practical experience and start a network with contacts from the industry. You work on real projects and learn how to apply theoretical concepts in practice.

3: Specialisation phase (from the 6th semester)

From the 6th semester, you will be able to specialise further by choosing FWPMs.  These FWPMs allow you to delve deeper into the subject matter and build up expertise in a specific area of e-commerce.

4: Bachelor's thesis (7th semester)

You will write your bachelor’s thesis during the last semester. Here you have the opportunity to work academically on a specific topic from the field of e-commerce. The bachelor's thesis enables you to deepen your specific expert knowledge and develop solutions to real-world challenges. Our programme structure guarantees in-depth and practical training that will optimally prepare you for a successful career in e-commerce.

Practice-orientation

Studies at THWS are characterised by a high degree of practice-orientation and the internship semester. Depending on the chosen degree programme, the internship semester is scheduled for the 5th or 6th semester. The internship semester offers you the chance to complete an internship with a company of your choice and gain insights into the professional world. That way you can apply the theoretical and practical knowledge developed during your studies in the work environment you are most interested in.

Requirement for admission to the Technical University of Applied Sciences Würzburg-Schweinfurt is a valid general higher education entrance qualification (Abitur), a subject-specific higher education entrance qualification (fachgebundene Hochschulreife), an advanced technical college certificate (Fachhochschulreife), a general/subject-specific entrance qualification for qualified professionals, or a comparable qualification from abroad (HZB, university entrance qualification).
