Study contents
The degree programme Healthcare Management offers students an in-depth education in the core areas of healthcare management. The 7-semester bachelor's degree programme (210 ECTS credits) is based on four specialisations. These are: Social and Economic Sciences, Health Sciences, Management Studies and Research, Methods and Digitalisation, e.g. Environmental Health or International Health Care.
Programme structure
1: Foundation phase (1st to 4th semester)
The foundation phase comprises four semesters. It is preceded by a 10-week pre-study internship in the healthcare sector. The first semester is the introductory semester. You will learn the basics of healthcare in various modules, brush up on your knowledge of business maths and statistics, and receive an introduction to business administration. You will also attend your first management modules. In the 2nd semester, modules such as Self-Management and Problem-Solving, which also cover interpersonal topics, are added.
2: Main studies and specialisation phase (3rd and 4th semester)
The focus of the 3rd semester is placed on the healthcare sector, with a special focus on internal accounting and legal principles. You will deal with the design of healthcare systems, quality assurance in the healthcare sector, and HR management in healthcare organisations. In the 4th semester, you are introduced to empirical research. You will also work on practical projects. The programme also covers interviewing and negotiation skills, a core elective module as well as accounting and controlling. Another key aspect is digitalisation in the healthcare sector, which is important for the future development of the sector.
3: Internship (5th semester)
The internship phase, consisting of an internship seminar and reflection module, is scheduled for the 5th semester. Now it's time to put your theoretical knowledge and skills to the test. You experience healthcare organisations first hand and thus gain valuable experience. Of course, you can also take this opportunity to go abroad and study at one of our partner universities. That way, you will not only improve your intercultural competence but will also learn to navigate international terrain with confidence.
4: Final phase (6th to 7th semester)
In the 7th semester, you will take the modules Specialisation Module II, Law in the Healthcare Sector II, Digitalisation in Healthcare II, Current Developments in Healthcare, and Management as a Profession. By then, the combination of theory and practical phases will have optimally prepared you for the challenges in the healthcare sector. Now it's time to write your bachelor's thesis to prove your expertise and successfully complete your degree programme.
Specialisations
In the 6th and 7th semester, specialisation modules from the fields of management and health sciences are offered. You will develop specialist knowledge in selected fields of academia and practice and scrutinise specific topics and questions.
Students can also choose from our general elective modules (AWPM). These enable you to specialise further.
