Study contents
In the course of the three-semester master's programme you will develop specialist knowledge in journalism and communication studies with a strong practical focus. You implement real projects in collaboration with media companies and businesses, applying specialist journalism and corporate communication specifically in the fields of economics, technology, and sustainability. In addition to traditional journalistic text formats, the programme focuses on digital media, social media, podcasting and corporate media.
Programme structure
1: Foundation phase (1st and 2nd semester)
In the first two semesters, you will develop in-depth knowledge of journalistic forms of presentation and specialist communication. You will learn how to use news, reports, and storytelling techniques professionally. The modules on corporate communication and public relations teach strategies for internal and external corporate communication. In the practical seminars on research and media law, you will learn methods for finding topics, evaluating sources, and ensuring the legal compliance of journalistic articles. The area of cross-media and digital formats covers social media, podcasting, and online journalism as central tools of modern media work. Another focus is sustainability communication, which is addressed from both a journalistic and a corporate strategy perspective.
2: Final phase (3rd semester)
In the 3rd semester, the focus is on practical implementation and the master's thesis. Students work in a digital editorial office, produce journalistic or communication science articles, and deepen their skills in audiovisual reporting. Journalistic video production teaches the basics of professional handling of moving image formats. In the master's colloquium, methodological and conceptual approaches for the master's thesis are developed. Students may conduct either a practice-oriented journalistic production or a communication science analysis for their final thesis.
