Studienkolleg Procedure

In case you received the result "Studienkolleg" from your pre-evaluation (Uni-assist, APS or ZAST), it means you cannot be admitted directly to a German university. You first need to do a preparation course (so-called “Studienkolleg” or “foundation year”) or study at least for one year in a similar Bachelor programme in your home country to receive your higher education qualification and start your studies at a German university. Herewith we would like to provide you with information regarding the possibilities for you to study at THWS:

Note: 

THWS does not have its own Studienkolleg/Foundation year programme. This means you need to search for a Studienkolleg and apply for it on your own.

However, THWS offers other types of preparatory courses that may qualify you for admission to a degree programme at THWS.

Studienkolleg Programmes in Germany

Before applying for a Studienkolleg, please read the information on the Studienkolleg's website regarding application deadlines. Also, carefully read important information regarding language requirements, entrance examinations, and tuition fees.You need to choose a technical direction (T-course) if you would like to study f.e. our degree programs Mechatronics (B.Eng.), Logistics (B.Eng.), Business and Engineering (B.Eng.) or Robotics (B.Eng.).   • Studienkolleg Coburg: Public preparatory course with German as the language of instruction. To apply for this program, you must demonstrate German language proficiency at the B2 level. 1
  • Berlin International College: Private preparatory course with English as the language of instruction 1
  • German International College: Private preparatory course with English as the language of instruction


1 Please note that the Berlin International College (BIC) and the German International College (GIC) are partners of THWS and offer preparatory college courses in English. Since attending a Studienkolleg is a prerequisite for our English-language degree programs, we have established these partnerships. Once you have successfully completed the Studienkolleg at BIC or GIC, you will have a university entrance qualification for our institution. As part of our partnership with BIC and GIC, you will also receive a certificate of conditional admission to our university from THWS. For more information on admission requirements, the necessary documents, and the application process, please contact the Berlin International College or German International College directly. 

Sollten Sie sich bei einem staatlichen Studienkolleg (Kurse nur auf Deutsch) einschreiben, schließen Sie das Kolleg mit einer fachbezogenen, deutschlandweiten Hochschulzugangsberechtigung ab. Das Studienkolleg Coburg befindet sich am nächsten an unserer Hochschule, aber neben diesem gibt es in jedem weiteren deutschen Bundesland jeweils zwei weitere Staatliche Studienkollegs für die Sie sich entscheiden können.

Was private Studienkollegs in anderen deutschen Bundesländern (außer Bayern) betrifft, so sichern Sie sich bitte darüber ab, dass das Abschlusszertifikat des jeweiligen Kollegs allgemeingültig ist und Ihre Zugangsberechtigung nicht auf eine bestimmte Hochschule/ein bestimmtes Bundesland beschränkt.
Beispiel: Wenn Ihr Abschlusszertifikat einer privaten Studienkollegs in Niedersachsen sagt, dass Sie mit dieser Zulassungsvoraussetzung berechtigt sind an allen Hochschulen des Bundeslandes Niedersachsen zu studieren, bedeutet das, dass Sie nicht an der THWS angenommen werden können, da diese im Bundesland Bayern verortet ist.

If you enroll in a state-run preparatory college (courses offered only in German), you will graduate with a subject-specific, Germany-wide university entrance qualification. The Coburg Studienkolleg is the closest to our university, but in addition to this one, there are two other state-run preparatory colleges in every other German state from which you can choose.

As for private Studienkollegs in other German states (except Bavaria), please ensure that the certificate of completion from the respective college is universally valid and that your admission qualification is not limited to a specific university or a specific state.
Example: If your certificate from a private Studienkolleg in Lower Saxony states that this qualification entitles you to study at all universities in the state of Lower Saxony, this means you cannot be admitted to THWS, as it is located in the state of Bavaria.
