Strengthening Our Academic Partnership with Nagaoka University of Technology (NUT)
On 20th July 2026, we had the honor of welcoming a delegation visit from our partner university NUT, Nagaoka University of Technology, Nagaoka, Japan. It was a pleasure to welcome our colleagues, and the visit marked an important step in strengthening and expanding our academic partnership as well as future potential collaborations and activities.
The visit began with an exchange of thoughtful gifts, followed by short and effective presentations from both sides focusing on the structure of the two universities. After some welcoming notes from THWS side, the discussion began with a brief presentation on NUT’s structure, programs and its distinct features in some study programs. This was later followed by presentation from THWS side, with focus on programs and projects, as well as internationalization activities. After this inspiring exchange of presentations, an impactful discussion was carried out with a focus on several areas including enhancement of student mobility between both universities, funding possibilities and future possible collaboration activities.
Enhancing Student Mobility
During the discussion, both universities expressed a mutual commitment to enhancing existing student mobility programs. While challenges exist on both sides of the partnership, particularly in funding the mobility programs in sustainable manners, both universities remain eager to find solutions that support further sustainable developments of student mobility.
Both NUT and THWS see strong potential in expanding mobility within engineering study programs. THWS views NUT as a promising academic destination, especially for engineering studies, and intends to strengthen promotional efforts toward the engineering student community.
Unique Academic Offerings on both sides of the partnership
Representatives from both universities continued the discussion by presenting and explaining their own distinctive academic programs.NUT is committed to actively responding to societal needs for continued educational opportunities at the advanced level. As such, the university welcomes individuals who have already earned degrees at technical colleges or universities and have begun their professional careers. In April 2006, the university established the Professional Graduate School “System Safety.”At THWS, the English‑taught bachelor's degree programmes are designed as TWIN programmes, meaning they are linked with German‑taught degree programmes. This structure allows students to study in both German and English.
The visit concluded with a mutual agreement to stay in contact regarding further development plans, especially in potential short‑term exchanges, collaborative initiatives, and expansion activities in engineering sectors and micro‑credentials and the field of continuous education.
