Blog entry 5 – Between Midterm Stress and Vacation

Meanwhile, we are already in the crunch mode of the midterms, which also means the half of our semester abroad is already over.

The examination system here at UCAM is structured differently from ours in Germany. The midterms are always offered halfway through a semester: you write an examination about the lecture contents of the first weeks, so that you don't have to study too much during the final exam period at the end of the semester. I think this structure is pretty good, because you have already completed a big part of the tasks by the middle of the semester and you get a good idea of how the professors take their exams.

The grading system here is also a bit different: a 10 is the best grade and with a 5 you just passed.

After the midterms, the urge to explore hit us again. Since the birthday of our Italian roommate was approaching, we thought about going on another tour to Andalusia. This time our destinations were the two beautiful cities on the Costa del Sol: Málaga and Marbella. Unfortunately, we don't have a car here and so we booked a lift via the carpool platform Blabla-Car. The driver was very nice and we had the possibility to speak Spanish with him.

In Málaga we moved into our Airbnb-Apartment (with two separate roof terraces) and then went into town to be enchanted by the Andalusian cuisine. The sea inspired us to eat fresh fish, which is the number one dish in this region.

The next day, we made our way to Marbella.

Marbella - luxury vacation with charm. Everywhere there are these small winding alleys, extravagant shops, grand villas and luxury yachts that can be admired at the marina. We enjoyed the day mainly by the sea, as the weather was simply fantastic. In the evening, we took the bus back to Málaga, because the prices for an overnight stay in Marbella are much higher.

These two cities are really recommendable and from Murcia an amazing number of Blabla-Car drivers drive to different places all over Spain.

In the coming weeks, some friends from Germany will come visit me and I am eagerly awaiting it!
