International students in the robotics program

Application

It is usually possible to apply for a degree programme at the THWS once a year. The majority of degree programmes start in the winter semester. A few degree programmes start in the summer semester.

The application period for degree programmes beginning in the winter semester (1 October) runs from 1 May to 15 July every year.

Selected degree programmes, mostly English-language degree programmes, open the application period on 1 April and close earlier on 15 June.

The application period for programmes starting in the summer semester (15 March) runs from 15 November to 15 January every year. Here too, some degree programmes, especially English degree programmes, open the application period earlier on 15 October and close the application period accordingly on 15 December.

Application periods may vary depending on the application period. The current information on the application periods is displayed in the CampusPortal .

Please see our degree programmes for details of whether it is also possible to commence your studies in the summer semester. Please also see the general information regarding your application and the information for an application to a higher semester.

We strongly advise international applicants to apply by 15 December for the summer semester application period and 15 June for the winter semester application period if you do not already live in Germany or the EU.

Students with applications after these dates often encounter visa and accommodation problems, resulting in a delayed start to their studies or arrival, which can lead to problems in the further course of their studies.

All applications received after these recommended dates will still be reviewed like any other application, but we would like to warn you in good time of possible problems caused by a late application.

Please note that you can already apply to the VPD of Uni-assist before the application period starts (see step 1).

For general information and support for prospective international students and applicants you can reach us via e-mail at i-campus[at]thws.de or phone at  +49 931/3511-6500.

International students, who are already admitted, please contact our International Student Support via welcome[at]thws.de

Depending on your university entrance qualification, a different application procedure must be followed.

Procedure for applicants with international university entrance qualifications

For the evaluation of your application at the THWS you need a valid pre-evaluation of your university entrance qualification/ master entrance qualification. Therefore you have to have your school/university leaving documents reviewed (step 1).

At the same time please apply for your degree programme via the THWS online application portal (step 2).

Please note the application period in our application portal and, if not otherwise possible, send your incomplete application before the end of the application period without the pre-evaluation of your university/ master entrance qualification.

Applications can no longer be sent and accepted after the end of the application period.

Your application can only be processed by us after the pre-evaluation has been uploaded.

Step 1: request pre-evaluation (VPD) from uni-assist

  1. Register with uni-assist
Note that with uni-assist you do not apply for a specific degree programme, but for your VPD for your future degree (Bachelor or Master)
  2. Complete your online VPD application. Please be careful to apply for the proper VPD: Bachelor OR Master VPD.
Note that we can only accept VPDs that had been issued for THWS. You can find our university in the uni-assist portal under the name Technische Hochschule Wuerzburg-Schweinfurt.
  3. Submit your application electronically

It is not necessary to send your documents by post to uni-assist.

Please be careful to apply for the proper VPD: Bachelor OR Master VPD.

You JUST can apply for a Bachelor's programme with a Bachelor VPD!

You JUST can apply for a Master's programme with a Master VPD!

Please note that VPDs will only be accepted if issued for THWS

VPDs from other universities cannot be verified and therefore cannot be accepted.

The review at Uni-assist will take at least 4 to 6 weeks.

It is possible to request preliminary review documentation (VPD) for your university/master entrance qualification at any time of the year, regardless of whether our application period has already begun. Please allow sufficient time to obtain your preliminary review documentation (VPD). Please note that the preliminary review documentation by uni-assist costs EUR 75.00 for your first desired course of study in an application semester.

If the result of your VPD is „Studienkolleg“ you can find further information and a detailled description of further steps on our website.

For more information on possible exceptions to the pre-evaluation application for applicants from certain regions of the world, please see the respective language sub-pages (Russian, Spanish, Turkish). You can change the language in the upper right corner of this webpage.

Additional exceptions to the VPD for applicants from China, India and Vietnam:
You can hand in an APS certificate as an equivalent to the VPD from Uni-assist.
The APS is a joint institution of the German Embassy’s cultural department and the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD). It exists in China, India and Vietnam. The APS checks the authenticity of educational biographies and the corresponding certificates and, if the result is positive, issues a certificate to verify the university entrance qualification in Germany.

Since an application for a VPD from Uni-assist for persons with a university entrance qualification from India, China and Vietnam is only possible with an APS, we recommend submitting only the APS certificate when applying to the THWS.

When applying with an APS certificate your APS certificate needs to evaluate your complete university entrance qualification or bachelor´s studies, otherwise it is not accepted and you need to apply for a VPD at Uni-assist and submit your APS certificate in addition to all other required documents at Uni-assist.

Additional exceptions for applicants who are already in Germany:
You can hand in a pre-evaluation/ recognition notice from ZAST/ZAB (Zeugnisanerkennungsstelle). ZAST/ZAB certificates are an equivalent to the VPD from Uni-assist.

If your VPD/ APS upload cannot be considered due to a late upload or you are unable to upload your VPD/ APS at all, we recommend that you reapply during the next possible application phase (Please note that many programmes start only once a year).

Please note, that our university accepts the VPD for a period of two years from its issuing date and you could use it for your application within the next possible application period.

An APS has no expiration date! Therefore, every time you go through an application process to study in Germany, you just need to reapply for a student visa for Germany.

Step 2: apply via the THWS application portal

  1. Go to THWS application portal
  2. Please keep to the instructions in the portal.
  3. Upload the following documents as PDF files to the application portal:
    • Pre-evaluation from uni-assist (VPD), APS or ZAST/ZAB
    • Passport
    • Proof of language proficiency
    • Please note that depending on the degree programme, additional documents may be required (e.g. internship references). Please see the leaflet on your chosen degree programme for details.
  4. Fill in all your university education in the pre studies (university only) section of your application. List all stages of your university education achieved before studying at THWS and the associated data. Please make sure that your complete pre-studies information is listed until your enrolment at THWS.
  5. You can find further information about the application process, immatriculation and admission at the page of the Department for Student Affairs (HSST).

If your application is incomplete and documents are missing, we will return the application. Please keep this status until you upload the requested documents/information. Please see our website for an explanation of the application status.

Please be advised to upload all required documents and information as soon as possible. In non-restricted degree programmes, it is generally also possible to upload documents after the application deadline. If you upload documents relating to your higher education entrance qualification/Master's entrance qualification after the application deadline, the application team will ask the faculty whether your application can still be considered. Factors like the waiting time to obtain a visa as well as other travel arrangements are considered in making this decision. This is only possible in non-grade restricted programmes (without NC).

Important! If you are applying to an undergraduate degree programme for which admission restrictions (Numerus Clausus) apply, you will also need to register on www.hochschulstart.de to obtain an applicant ID (Bewerber-ID, BID) and authentication number (Bewerber-Authentifizierungs-Nummer), which you must then enter in the THWS application portal.
Please find more information on your chosen degree programme for details or see the information for programmes with restricted admission.

The application procedure for the THWS application portal is summarized step by step in this User Guide.

Applications for a higher semester:

If you wish to apply for a higher semester, you can select the "Higher semester" option in your application in the application portal.

If you are applying for a higher semester, please upload the following documents in addition to the documents listed in step 2:

  • Confirmation of study period
  • Transcript of records (proof of performance of the previous degree programme)
  • Module descriptions
  • Application for recognition of study and examination achievements: Application for recognition of study and examination achievements from the University of Applied Sciences Würzburg-Schweinfurt (thws.de)
  • Proof of practical modules (if available)

Please note, that you need to hand in a form for credit recognition within the first four weeks of the semester to the faculty of your degree programme if you get admission to the first semester at our university.

This form can only be handed in once, so please prepare it carefully.
