Report December - Wirtschaftsingenieurwesen

Fri, 15 Dec 2017 | Bachelor's degree programme Wirtschaftsingenieurwesen

Christmas is different in every place of the world. There are even cultures that do not celebrate Christmas at all. Germany, like my home country Colombia, celebrates Christmas extensively. People are always looking forward to December, because it means Christmas is coming. You can see how children are looking forward to their presents. They decorate the streets and buildings with lights and Christmas decoration.

In Germany, they even have Christmas markets, which are a popular place to visit from the beginning of December. They have Glühwein (a typical German Christmas drink), Nutella crepes, and other food you can enjoy with your friends and family.

Christmas in Germany is very special compared to my home country, because they have winter. In Colombia, it is always warm on Christmas. This year, it snowed a lot in Germany, and it was beautiful to see all the Christmas decoration and the (real) Christmas trees covered in snow (just like in movies).

Even though you normally celebrate Christmas with family, it is also nice to celebrate in a different country with people from many different cultures. You learn a lot about Christmas traditions from those cultures.

On 24th December, they prepare a special meal in every house. Some people go to church before the meal. In the evening, they give each other presents and afterwards, they play games (also typical German) – at least it was like this in my host family.

Christmas is a very nice time you spend with your friends and family.
